FAQs

How do I start using a room?

It's easy to start using a Storagebase room – There are just 4 simple steps:

  • Choose your room
  • Sign a contract
  • Provide some ID
  • Pay at least the first 4 weeks storage charge

To benefit from the best value rates and offers you will need to provide details for future payments by debit card or direct debit.

For security reasons we cannot accept cash payments for storage rooms.

How do I work out the size of the room I need?

Visit or phone our store and our team will help you choose. To start with you can use our size estimators to calculate the space you will need yourself but we are more than happy to do this for you. Most people are surprised that they can use a room that is significantly smaller than they imagine at first. Using all the available height in the room and packing things well will let you use a smaller room and so save money. With our first 4 weeks free offer you can use a larger room initially for free and move to a smaller room before you have to pay anything. If you start using your room and want to change to a different size on the day you start storing you can move to any of the rooms we have available at the time with no penalty.

What do I have to pay on top of the standard room rate?

Only insurance for your things if they have a value. If you wish you can use an existing insurance policy you may have such as your home contents or business policy if it offers cover for your things whilst in storage. You must provide evidence of alternate insurance if you do not wish to use our insurance. Unlike some other companies we do not require you to buy a lock for your room, pay a deposit or pay access charges.

How long must I pay for at one time?

The minimum period is 4 weeks, but we reimburse any time you don't use so you only actually end up paying for the days you have actually used. If you stop using your room soon after you have paid for an extra 4 weeks the time you have paid for but not used will be refunded promptly. We aim to process all refunds within 7 days.

How do I secure my room?

With your own padlock or with a padlock we can give you for free. We can provide a combination lock (where you can set the code) or a lock with 3 keys. We do not retain keys or codes to any rooms nor do we have any master keys for any locks so only you have access to your room.

What security systems do you have?

Fire and burglar alarms, CCTV and importantly our staff on site keeping an eye on everything 7 days a week. Our stores offer the national association of insurers ‘Gold’ standard of security.

Can anyone else access my things?

Only you have the key to your room – even we don't keep a key. If you would like to receive deliveries to your room in your absence you will need a combination lock on the door which we can provide. This way there are no keys to be lost and you can change the code when you like. We charge a small monthly administration charge if you wish us to handle your deliveries for you in your absence.

How do I increase or decrease my room size?

Just turn up and change but you must give 7 days notice to vacate your old room. You only pay the pro rata difference if increasing. If decreasing you will receive a credit which can be set against future payments or refunded to you. Everything is worked out on a pro rata daily basis. To ensure you are able to move to the right size of room we recommend that you reserve your new room in advance where possible.

How do I give back my room?

Just give 7 days written notice then turn up and empty your room and sign a vacation form at reception. If we have provided a lock you will need to return it with the keys. Your room must be empty and clean.

What if I only need the room for part of the next period I have to pay for?

You must pay for each period of 4 weeks before it starts but we reimburse any days you do not use. If you forget to provide 7 days written notice of your move out date you will be charged 7 days from the date when you advise us that you are moving out and any time left over will be refunded.

How can I pay for my room?

Using a debit card or setting up a direct debit mandate in store will ensure you benefit from the best possible deals. You can choose to pay by credit card or standing order subject to a billing fee of £2 per week to offset the high cost of processing these types of payments.

What is the best way to pack my things?

See our handy hints and tips page for detailed advice.

How can I move my things into my room?

You can hire a van to get your things to our store, use your own car or get a removals company to do it for you. Once on site you can unload under cover and use our trolleys, sack barrows and pallet trucks to easily get your things to your room. Unlike many removals companies there are no access charges at Storagebase so you can come and go as often as you like.

Is there anything I cannot store?

Flammable or toxic products are forbidden as are any fresh food, animal or vegetable products. Please see the detail on our insurance information sheet for more information.

Can you receive my deliveries for me when I am not there?

Whether ordering goods on the internet or sorting out a large order when you are busy elsewhere we can receive your deliveries for you. Please contact us first to make arrangements. Even if you will receive your own deliveries each delivery must have your name and room number on it.
